REFRESH partners Acciona and Gees Recycling participated in the International Symposium on Current Challenges of Wind Energy Development: Materials Science and Structural Aspects.

The meeting was held in Athens, Greece, on 13-15 May. Both partners gave presentations on the first day.

Anurag Bansal, Head of Strategic Innovations, Acciona, discussed creating value through recycling of end-of-service life wind turbine blades, while Giorgio Betteto, R&D CTO of Gees, spoke about mechanical recycling of blades and prototypes developed in the REFRESH project.

Great to network with everyone and explore the solutions necessary to ensure the sustainable growth of wind energy over the next decades, and also really pleased to connect with our sister project BLADES2BUILD at the event.

This symposium focused on materials science challenges for wind energy development in next decades, and the solutions necessary to ensure reliable and efficient growth of wind energy capacity. It was organised in the framework of two projects: EU-funded Blades2Build: Recycle, repurpose and reuse end-of-life wind blades composites, and the Danish-Indian project Maintainergy: Maintenance and repair strategy for wind energy development.
