REFRESH team member Ioana Muntean of RINA features in a new Women in Composites article published by JEC Composites.

As a sustainability expert at RINA, Ioana supports clients in developing resilient and sustainable projects that deliver positive environmental impact. Among other tasks, she is responsible for validating the sustainability of the REFRESH project’s circular approach for end-of-service wind turbine blades, reflecting her commitment to advancing solutions that create tangible value.

In the article she talks about her career to date, her role at RINA, and her ambitions for the future.

Tangible results

Ioana leads the sustainability assessment of the REFRESH recycling processes and the products incorporating recycled materials being developed. RINA’s LCA study provides a comprehensive and data-driven assessment of innovative recycling processes for composites derived from end-of-life blades.

“In REFRESH, we see plants scaling from pilot scale to industrial scale or from lab scale to pilot scale. These are very tangible things. My work contributes directly to the development and the validation of the circular solution,” she says.

“What I also like is the fact that we are 11 very different partner organisations, but we are collaborating very well together. The team members also have different levels of seniority, so we have the opportunity to learn from each other. Beyond the tangible results reached so far in the project, I think the people and the way the consortium works is adding value to our project.”
