REFRESH partners RINA, TECNALIA, CIRCE and Gjenkraft participated in the 2nd Annual Wind Blade Materials and Recycling Forum in Amsterdam.

Under the theme Supporting Sustainable Decommissioning of Wind Turbine Blades the conference programme presented developments in recycling technologies and discussed ways to improve blade recycling and circularity. Presentations and panel discussions highlighted research projects and industry initiatives.

The event on 30-31 October provided an excellent opportunity to discuss the REFRESH concept and recycling technologies with a highly relevant audience. The REFRESH team were able to reconnect with industry colleagues and ongoing projects, meet new contacts and learn about new initiatives.

The REFRESH presentations

Project coordinator Daniel Grisenti of RINA Consulting and Jaime Moreno Juez from TECNALIA teamed up on the presentation, REFRESH – Smart, Circular Recycling of Turbine Blades and Smart Traceability Tool. This provided an overview of the project’s value chain and an introduction to the novel blockchain traceability platform (BTP) being developed.

Ignacio Julián Burillo of CIRCE took part in a panel discussion and delivered a presentation about Thermo-Chemical Recycling of Wind Turbine Blades Assisted by Microwave Heating.

Gjenkraft was a sponsor of the forum. Marcin Rusin was available to discuss the company’s advanced thermal process for recycling blades. In REFRESH, the glass fibres being recovered from this process are being incorporated into new products being designed by other partners.
