REFRESH will be participating in the European Wind Blade Recycling Summit 2025 in Berlin on 11-12 June.

Organised by ACI, this event brings together key stakeholders, from wind blade recyclers and blade manufacturers, to technology providers, composites manufacturers, consultants, and researchers.

The REFRESH presentation will take place on the second day of the conference.

Abstract

The EU-funded REFRESH project is developing a smart, circular concept for enabling improved recycling of glass fibre reinforced composites from decommissioned wind turbine blades. A blockchain traceability tool and decision-making software will make it possible to select the optimal recycling route for each blade. This decision will take into account market demand for the recycled materials/products.

This presentation will explain the REFRESH value chain and innovations: from blade dismantling, shredding and sorting technologies, to customised recycling processes (mechanical, thermal), and design of new products incorporating repurposed parts/recycled materials for use in wind energy and other markets.

It will also present the end-user’s view of the challenges and opportunities associated with introducing recycled materials into new products, and, in particular, how the REFRESH secondary materials could be exploited in the construction industry.
