REFRESH partner CIRCE is participating in PYROLIQ III – 2025: Pyrolysis and Liquefaction of Biomass and Wastes, on 14-19 September in Cetraro, Italy.

The CIRCE presentation Experimental microwave-assisted EoL wind turbine blades recycling: Role of chemical recycling route on oils quality and process techno-economics will be delivered by Ignacio Julian. It is scheduled for 16 September.

CIRCE’s role in REFRESH

As part of REFRESH, CIRCE has been exploring energy-efficient pyrolysis and solvolysis processes based on microwave-assisted heating (MWH) technology for the recycling of glass fibres and valorisation of resins from wind turbine blades. Experiments are being conducted on shredded blade waste using lab-scale MWH units.

The recovered fibres, pyrolysis oils and chemical building blocks, and energy-efficiency of the MWH processes, are being characterised to assess the techno-economic viability of this solution. The recovered fibres are being made available to other REFRESH partners for integration into new products.

PYROLIQ III

PYROLIQ III, organised by Engineering Conference International (ECI), is a forum for discussion of the recent advances in liquefaction technologies of biomass, organic residues and wastes to intermediate products like bio-oil, biochar, and syngas. It will cover pyrolysis, hydropyrolysis, solvent liquefaction and hydrothermal processing. A special session will be dedicated to pyrolysis-liquefaction of wastes from fossil origin, such as plastics.
