In October, Spanish broadcaster Aragón TV visited REFRESH partner CIRCE to find out about its research into technologies for recycling wind turbine blades.

CIRCE researchers Alejandro Fresneda Cruz and Ignacio Julián were featured talking about their work during Aragón TV’s news report on 5th November.
As part of the REFRESH project, CIRCE is developing energy-efficient thermal and thermo-chemical processes based on microwave-assisted heating (MWH) technology for the recycling of glass fibres and valorisation of resins from composite wind turbine blade waste.
During November, CIRCE’s work on wind blade recycling was also announced as a finalist in the Premios QIA 2023 competition organised by Asociación de Centros Promotores de la Excelencia. This is part of an international competition recognising excellence in the execution and management of innovative projects around the world and CIRCE’s entry in the Innovation in Circular Economy and Carbon Footprint category was ranked second in Spain.
About REFRESH
REFRESH (Smart dismantling, sorting and REcycling of glass Fibre REinforced composite from wind power Sector through Holistic approach) is a European project aiming to develop and demonstrate a novel circular, smart system enabling improved recycling of glass fibre reinforced composites derived from wind turbine dismantling or reblading.
